What is positive behaviour support?

Positive behaviour support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and building skills and environments that make those behaviours unnecessary. Rather than simply managing or suppressing behaviour, PBS aims to improve quality of life by addressing the underlying causes — such as unmet communication needs, sensory sensitivities, or environmental factors.

Who can access behaviour support through the NDIS?

Accepted Answer

NDIS participants whose plan includes funding for Improved Daily Living (CB Daily Activity) or Specialist Behaviour Intervention Support can access behaviour support services. If you're unsure whether your plan includes this funding, check your myplace portal or speak with your support coordinator or plan manager. What is a Behaviour Support Plan?

A Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is a personalised document developed by a qualified behaviour support practitioner in collaboration with the participant, their family, and their support team. It describes the behaviours of concern, the factors that contribute to them, and the strategies that everyone involved should use to support the person. BSPs must be developed in line with NDIS Practice Standards and reviewed regularly.

How long does it take to develop a Behaviour Support Plan?

The timeline varies depending on the complexity of the participant's needs and how quickly we can gather information from the participant, family, and other supports. In most cases, an interim plan can be developed within 4–6 weeks of the initial assessment, with a comprehensive plan completed within 3–6 months. We'll give you a clearer timeline after our initial conversation.

Do you work with children and adults?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we support NDIS participants of all ages, from young children through to older adults. Our practitioners have experience across a wide range of diagnoses and support needs, including autism, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, and complex trauma.

What areas do you service?

Accepted Answer

We are based in Canberra and primarily service participants across the ACT and surrounding region, including Queanbeyan and nearby NSW communities. If you're unsure whether we can support you in your area, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

Question 7

Can I self-refer, or does it need to come from a support coordinator?

Accepted Answer

Anyone can make a referral — participants, family members, carers, support coordinators, allied health professionals, or other service providers. You don't need a support coordinator to access our services. Simply complete our online referral form or give us a call.

Question 8

What happens if my NDIS plan doesn't include behaviour support funding?

Accepted Answer

If your current plan doesn't include behaviour support funding, your support coordinator or local area coordinator (LAC) may be able to help you request a plan review. We can also provide a letter of support outlining the recommended services if that would be helpful. Contact us to discuss your situation.
